At Everytel, we collect information about visitors to improve your user experience. The information may, for example, be used to improve the website, respond to your messages, and for marketing purposes.
In this privacy policy, you can read about which personal information we collect, how we collect the data, the lawful basis for processing it, and how we manage and protect your information.
Who is responsible for your information?
The entity responsible for storing and managing personal information on Everytel is Comparico AB, with company registration number 556851-2312. This company operates the website and is responsible for ensuring compliance with current laws and regulations regarding personal information, including the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
What is considered personal information?
According to the Australian Privacy Act 1988, personal information is information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable. Examples include name, address, email address, IP address, gender or location information.
Why we collect and use your personal information
We only collect and hold personal information by lawful and fair means, and only for purposes that are reasonably necessary for, or directly related to, one or more of our business functions or activities.
We collect your information for the following primary purposes:
1. To provide our services to you. When you create an account with us to leave reviews, you enter into an agreement (our Terms of Use) with us. We process your information (name, email) in order to fulfil that agreement – that is, to be able to create and manage your account.
2. To respond to your enquiries. When you use our contact form, we use your name and email address to provide you with a reply.
3. With your consent. In some cases, we will only process your information after you have given us your explicit, opt-in permission. We rely on your consent for:
- Placing analytics cookies (e.g., Google Analytics).
- Placing marketing and affiliate tracking cookies.
You always have the right to withdraw your consent at any time via our Cookie Policy.
4. To meet our legal obligations. In certain cases, we may be required to retain or disclose information to comply with Australian laws, for example, if requested by a law enforcement agency or for bookkeeping purposes.
5. To protect our services. We may process data to protect our services from spam and abuse (for example, by analysing IP addresses associated with spam reviews).
What personal information do we collect?
This section explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how long we store it.
Information you provide to us yourself
In the following situations, you will need to provide your personal details yourself.
When you use our contact form
To send us a message via our contact form, you need to provide your email address and your name. We need this information in order to respond to your message. This data is processed in our email system (Google Workspace) and will be permanently deleted as soon as we have handled your case.
When you use our feedback feature
The purpose of this feature is solely to collect anonymous feedback to help us improve our website.
You are not required to provide any personal information, and we explicitly instruct users not to submit personal information in the feedback form, as clearly stated in the feature’s disclaimer.
If you choose to include personal information in your message (such as your name, email, or phone number) against our instructions, this data will be stored temporarily in our system.
Our handling of such accidentally submitted data is strictly limited:
- We will not use this personal information for any purpose.
- We will not use it to contact you.
- The data will be permanently deleted as soon as our team has reviewed and processed the general feedback provided.
When you create an account to leave reviews
If you want to leave a review about a provider, you need to create an account with us. We require this step to help ensure that all reviews are genuine and to prevent spam or inauthentic submissions.
The information we store in connection with this is first and last name, email address and password. We also save all the reviews you have written. You can view all this information in your profile when you are logged in.
Your control and storage period
- We provide you with direct control over your data. When logged in, you can access and amend your personal details at any time via your account profile. You can also use the tool in your profile settings to permanently delete your entire account.
- This information is stored for as long as you have an active account with us. To comply with data protection principles, we have a policy for inactive accounts. If an account has no login activity for 24 consecutive months, it will be flagged as inactive. We will then contact you via email, and if the account is not reactivated within 30 days, it will be permanently deleted.
Information we collect with your consent
If you provide your consent via our cookie banner, we use cookies and analytics tools (such as Google Analytics) to collect data about visitor behaviour. We do this to understand how visitors use our website and to improve our services and user experience.
This data, which is treated as personal information, can include:
- Location information: We see your approximate location (e.g., country or city) based on your IP address. (Your IP address is automatically anonymised in Google Analytics, which means your full IP address is never stored on their servers).
- User behaviour: This helps us understand how you interact with our site, such as which pages you visit and how long you stay on them.
- Technical information: This includes the type of device (mobile, computer, etc.), browser, and operating system you are using.
Storage period
The user-level data collected by Google Analytics is set to be automatically deleted from their servers after 14 months. This retention period resets on new activity. This does not affect the aggregated, anonymous statistics we use to see overall trends.
Managing your consent
We will only collect this data if you actively accept analytics cookies in our cookie banner. You can view, change, or withdraw your consent at any time via our Cookie Policy, which also provides a full list of the cookies we use.
Our business model and affiliate links
To keep our comparison service completely free for you to use, we are financed through affiliate marketing.
This means that when you use our service to compare providers and click on a link to an operator’s website (e.g., to sign up for a mobile plan), we may receive a commission.
How this works (Data processing)
For this to work technically, tracking technology (such as cookies or tracking links) is used to identify that the referral came from our website. This process involves the collection and sharing of data, such as a cookie ID or your IP address, with our partners (the operators) and our affiliate networks.
This tracking will only occur if you have given your explicit consent for “Advertisement” cookies via our cookie banner.
You can find a complete list of these partners and the specific cookies used, as well as manage your consent, at any time in our Cookie Policy.
Disclosure of personal information outside Australia
To provide our services, we use certain third-party suppliers who are based outside Australia and the EEA. This means your data may be transferred to, and processed in, a country outside of Australia (such as the United States).
Google Workspace (Email and internal documents)
We use Google Workspace (provided by Google LLC) for our internal operations, including our company email system. When you contact us via email or our contact form, your personal information (such as your name, email address, and the content of your message) is processed by Google and may be transferred to and stored on servers in the United States (US).
Our Safeguards: We take reasonable steps to ensure that any overseas recipient of your personal information handles it in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APP 8). We do this by entering into Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) with our suppliers (like Google) which contractually oblige them to protect your data to a high standard. While we rely on mechanisms like Google’s certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (DPF) as evidence of their strong security practices, our legal basis for the transfer is our commitment to taking reasonable steps as required by Australian law.
Analytics and advertising partners (Based on consent)
Other services we use, such as Google Analytics and various affiliate networks, may also be based in the US or other third countries.
Any transfer of data for these purposes will only occur if you have given your explicit consent for analytics or marketing cookies via our cookie banner. These transfers are also managed by ensuring our partners (like affiliate networks) are contractually bound to protect your data and handle it in accordance with strict privacy standards.
Your privacy rights
Under the Australian Privacy Act, you have several rights designed to give you control over your personal information. To exercise any of these rights, the easiest way to contact us is through our contact form.
Here’s an overview of your primary rights:
- The right to access (APP 12): You have the right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you and to receive information about how we handle it.
- The right to correction (APP 13): If you believe the information we hold about you is inaccurate, out-of-date, incomplete, irrelevant, or misleading, you have the right to ask us to correct it.
- The right to opt-out: You have the right to opt-out of receiving direct marketing communications from us. (As noted, we only send marketing material or use marketing cookies with your explicit consent, which you can withdraw at any time).
- The right to withdraw consent: Where our use of your information is based on your consent, you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time via our Cookie Policy or by deleting your account.
Note on Deletion (APP 11.2): The Privacy Act requires us (under APP 11.2) to take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify personal information once it is no longer needed for any purpose for which it was collected.
The account deletion tool we provide in your profile settings allows you to exercise this right directly. When you delete your account, your personal information (name, email, reviews) is permanently erased from our systems.
If you believe that we have not handled your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act or the APPs, you can lodge a complaint with us via our contact form. We will investigate the complaint and provide you with a response.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
